we are off to a nice start with not a lot of major problems to report. also looking at the san mateo bridge, that traffic is doing well. let's go back to the desk. the caster valley man is facing charges in a drug case that is getting national attention this morning. he had a live alligator guarding his marijuana. here is more on this with this alligator named, mr. teeth. claudine? >> reporter: well, dave, no doubt, deputies here are used to dealing with a lot of strange and unusual things but a 5-foot alligator guarding a stash of marijuana that does not happen every day. this alligator is 5 feet long and his name is mr. teeth. he is kept in a flex i glass enclosure in the bedroom of a home and he is this morning being cared for at the oakland

zoo. he is described as being very sick so the zoo is taking care of him right now. >> we found out he had the alligator for 16 years and when we asked him how long he had it, he said he got the alligator to commemorate the death of two pock so that was in 1996. >> deputies went there yesterday to do a probation check on him and he had been convicted of a disturbance. neighbors say they don't know him or his wife or two-year-old child. they knew they had dogs but they certainly did not know about the 34 pounds of marijuana that mr. teeth was apparently guarding. one woman said she gets upset when she thinks about all the kids who play in the neighborhood. >> it is terrible, it is the size of a child and i don't

know how that could happen. it is very scary. >> reporter: let me show you the marijuana mr. teeth was guarding, an estimated street value of $134,000. he was being held on $160,000 bail and will face charges for drug charges. we have seen them online costing 250 bucks on up and we should also tell you, fish and game list it as illegal to own. we also expect more charges will be filed because he was not legally okay to have that alligator inside his home. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 morning news. police are issuing a safety warning to women in palo alto. janine de la vega has more on the search for the suspect and

what the woman said he did. >> reporter: the man exposed himself to the woman here near california avenue. the woman was approached while sitting in her car many of the people we spoke to had not heard about this incident. the woman in her 20s told police she was looking down at her phone texting and when she looked up she saw a man standing next to her car. he did not have pants on and they were unable to locate the suspect and this is unsettling news this morning. >> a lot of people should not have to worry about stuff like this. it is horrible, i wish there was something more we could do. >> there have been a number of cases of men sexually assaulting women in the

downtown area. several women were globed on downtown occasionsp. and another man tried to assault a woman in her bed before running away. none of those cases were solved and in this case the victim describeds suspect as a white man in his 20s about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build wearing a t-shirt and jeans. police are telling women to be aware of their surroundings and on the look out. time now 6:06 federal investigators lead to the oil tanker incident. the ntsb wants to know if radar equipped was working properly. now a coast guard bulletin says

they may help guide shifts but still we don't know if this incident is directly connected to this accident. >> we will include all of this in that study and we will try to conclude if it had any bearing on the incident. >> the price of the repairs could reach $3 million and the state will pay for it at first but the owner of the tanker may end up paying for those very expensive repairs. and for the breaking news in new york city we told you about this time yesterday morning, a high speed ferry from jersey one that crashed into a dock had recently installed a new system. the 141-foot ship named wall street slammed into a pier an injured dozens of passengers but they say it is still too early to know the exact cause.

in just about an hour, he is expected to ask for money to close the budget gap. that is far less than the budget gap facing the state years ago. k through 12 schools will receive more money thanks to the tax hike and governor brown is promising a healthy fiscal year ahead. they are calling on state leaders to restore programs for children seniors and people with disabilities. in san jose, fresno and san bernardino. vice-president joseph biden is hosting more meetings on gun violence at the white house today. he is getting information from both sides and we will have more on how gun supporters are already going on the offensive against any gun control coming

from the white house. sal, you know everybody depends on you getting them where they need to go. >> we have something causing a big traffic jam in the castro family this morning. this car was on fire and you can see flames shooting out of the trunk of the car. it happened in caster valley and there are no injuries reported. one lane was briefly blocked and traffic is now getting back to normal but the car is not doing well at all. let's go to the maps. this car caused a huge traffic jam out of the dublin area and continued out of caster valley. the car got us off to a wrong start there. southbound 101, there is a crash blocking the middle lane and it will be a little bit of

slow traffic there. >> 6:09. let's go to steve. the coldest air is still up here. it is not a very wet system and there is some snow and it is winding down as that system moves south. you can see where the moisture is coming out of the northwest and it is right around the coast and it looks like inland will be tough and because of that, we have a winter weather advisory which goes until 1:00 today. so far temperatures, they seem to be near freezing but not until 2500 feet. at 1800 feet, it is definitely possible here and it is 38 degrees and it would not surprise me. it is probably likely over to the west, in fact 30s and 40s and some of these locations will not get a above 39 degrees. the coldest air will arrive tonight and you can see most of

that moisture is painting itself on the santa cruz coastline right towards monterey. you can see some of that changing and when you see green going to pink and white there could be snow mixed as well. nothing yet being reported and it would not surprise me later. big cooling trend, it would take us into the weekend with very little snow levels. colder, showers, windy at times, upper 40s and lower 50s, they will not be very warm. it is not a strong one but a couple of warm ones looking sunny and warmer. a new outbreak, it is getting worse all over the country, they are now declaring this a public emergency because of so many cases. what they are doing to protect students from guns

. welcome back, sheriff's deputies are looking for an inmate who escaped the jail in

salinas. he walked away from a minimum security area from a work crew just after 2:00 yesterday afternoon. he was serving time for a burglary conviction. he is if the feet 8 inches tall, anybody with information is asked to contact -- 5 feet 8 inches tall and anybody with information is asked to call police. while they were there they visited a computer center and the internet is off limits to most people in north korea. he said if that country does not allow more internet access that country will be left behind. >> they can certainly build on top of that, but the government has to do something. they have to make it possible for people to use the internet. >> now bill richard some was

hoping to release an american detained in north korea but it does not look like that happened. ahmed wali karzai will be visiting leon panetta at the pentagon to talk about american troops in afghanistan. recently there is new talk about pulling american troops -- all american troops out of afghanistan after next year but they need american troops to keep guard to prevent what happened in libya. the president will meet with ahmed wali karzai tomorrow. as kyla campbell reports from our washington d.c. newsroom, several are already going against the white house's call for executive action. >> reporter: any executive order the president makes on gun laws would just be to push his own agenda and this is not what is best for the country.

the group has said there should not be new gun legislation and instead the government should do a better job of enforcing current laws. vice-president joseph biden is leading the panel to get feedback from both sides. vice-president joseph biden's comments about using an executive order are stirring up controversy. >> that i think changes the game and throws into question the legitimacy of the federal government. >> hollywood is sending representatives to the white house and more on their spending when i see you next. kyla campbell ktvu channel 2 morning news. the state teacher's fund is planning on investing in guns to make guns illegal in california. they do not want their pension money invested into freedom

groups who make rifles like the one used in the school shooting. they voted unanimously to start divesting from those companies. they will reexamine safety procedures in all 20 schools after the newtown connecticut school shooting. they will conduct a safety audit to come up with a plan on how to respond when a violent person comes to a school. wanting to catch a bank robber and they are making a photo to help make that happen. take a look at this surveillance photo of a man who robbed the el comino royal yesterday afternoon. he has a scar over one of his eyes. he walked into the bank about 3:30 in the afternoon and pointed a gun at the tellers. then he ran away with a

disclosed amount of crash. health officials say it is worse than last year and 41 states now report widespread flu cases. 4100 are reporting cases and 18 deaths. the mayor of boston declared a public health emergency. illinois and boston are also reporting flu deaths. doctors say it's not too late though, to get a flu shot. overnight, the astroid flew within 100 million miles from earth. they are trying to get information about it because the next time it passes by earth it will be 23,000 miles from us and that's not until 2029. >> sal, you usual have all of that information. >> we saw some exclusive

information which is causing these problems and you can see flames coming out of the trunk and it happened in caster valley blocking one of the lanes. the driver was not hurt when he realized something was wrong. one lane was briefly blocked and the scene has been cleared and traffic has been trying to get back to normal but they have caused a big traffic jam in the area. let's go live to our maps, 101 at the store are you road and a crash is being moved. another live picture they are getting a little bit of a backup as you drive to the toll plaza, it is 6:20 let's go to steve. right along the coast, there may be some low snow levels, colder though, you can see where a lot of this is coming down as it goes parallel to the coast. and inland, it's going to be

colder and breezy, because of that area near the santa cruz mountains is out until 1:00. it is still above 1500 feet and 30s and 40s on temperatures and we expect them to go down and you can see a little bit of it right near bolder creek. you can see a pink and fuchsia, not any white yet but in time it could go to the skyline as well. everything is coming out of the northwest and we still have a ways to go with this. inland, partly sunny skies, partly cloudy, and temperatures will struggle to get over 50 or 51. because of that when things calm down, a frost and freeze warning is already posted. we have a few weak systems and

. we have developing -- a developing story in new jersey, a school bus and commuter bus just collided. they are setting up stretchers and it is a triage situation and we are told there are reportedly no students in that school bus when it slammed into

the tree and collided with another bus. the tree branch tore through the roof of the bus. this is breaking news from the new jersey area and we are following this and we will bring you more information as it becomes available. don't be surprised, you may see f-16 fighter jets flying over the bay area today. this is california's north coast all the way to the north bay and this will take place in sonoma county and humboldt county. the cessna 182 will be practicing interception procedures and this will be happening between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. a skier had a scary encounter with a moose which happened at a ski resort. >> there is a moose...

coming down out of northwest, parallel to the coast, it will favor areas for precipitation. on half-moon bay, right a long skyline towards santa cruz mountains, snow is out until 1:00 and that being the santa cruz mountains it could get a little interesting and temperatures will be very cool, upper 40s and very low 50s. a man with a violent criminal past turned himself in to police and he said he killed his mother we will bring you a live report and details on what happened. a 5-foot call gate guarding a stash of marijuana, we will tell you what we have learned about the man who owned him. jack!

gator was booked in jail and we learned that happened a little after midnight this morning and then you have this gator who was taken to the oakland zoo described as quote, very sick. he is being cared for there right now. we want to tell you what we learned about mr. teeth, he is 5 feet long, he is 16 years old and he was owned by a 32-year- old man. police said he bought the gator to commemorate the death of two pock and we don't know anymore about it but we can tell you where it was found. he lived with his wife and two- year-old child. neighbors said they moved in recently and had several dogs including a pit bull. >> we would go into the backyard and carry a bat with us. >> because you were concerned

about the dog? >> yes. >> and did you expect an all gater? -- alligator? >> no. >> the marijuana has an estimated street value of $134,000. >> reporter: why did deputies go there in the first place? he was on probation and was allowing checks of his home and that's when they found the alligator in the bedroom. this morning we checked the jail where he was booked and he was officially arrested 310 testimony temperature and right now he is only booked on possession and we are expecting more charges could come in relation to the alligator becauser not allowed to earn one. as far as where he foes he is expected to be there 2:00. his occupation is listed as a

cashier and we are still not clear where he worked. claudine wong ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> time now 6:33 a man convicted of murder more than 40 years ago said he killed again and this time police say he killed his mother. joining us from vallejo, you have more details about this man's very violent past. >> reporter: that is correct, dave, i did some digging and i found a stamford law information. stand worth sexually assaulted and kidnapped three other women before he was convicted for the murders. this is where police were called yesterday when he turned himself in for killing his 89- year-old mother. here is a picture, just before noon yesterday, stand worth called officers san said he  killed his mother.

her boyfriend and tied them to a bizarre plot. the wife and boyfriend hired the man to scare his estranged husband. >> she was separating and was considering moving out of the residents and felt this would be a percent situation or -- persuasion or scare tactic to make him leave. >> he was an intruder inside the home and the us a act -- husband acted in self-defense and in the meantime the wife, the boyfriend and three others are in jail for murder charges. a man is in jail after setting his girlfriend on fire. breaking news... i don't want no trouble at the river... >> dozens of people singing and praying for the victim, 25-year-

cleared as we speak. sal said the traffic was a mess for a while and you can see why. >> my goodness, let's check in with sal right now. >> what happened was the fire department arrived and we got the video even before the fire department was there. they arrived put the car fire out and they had to be put on a flatbed tow truck. you see where i am going with this, it is very slow still even though all the lanes are finally open in that area. it is still very slow in antioch and when you get to 680 in contra costa, it looks good in venetia as you drive back to the area, bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for a ten minute delay and no problems getting onto the bridge. if you are in san jose, we had an earlier crash northbound 101, that has been moved to the side. 280 and 81 are off to a good

start. the cold air is finally moving through and right along the coast, we had numerous reports and maybe some snow in the santa cruz mountains and right along where most of the shower activity is going to favor you can see half-moon bay, and santa cruz mountains are a long skyline. but because of the winter weather advisory it is out for the discuss mountains and snow could get down to 1800 feet. 30s and 40s on temperatures and the cold air is still coming in. it will get cold tonight into tomorrow. it looks partly sunny and along the coast, things could get very cold and i can see around bolder creek, it would not surprise me if we get a couple of reports and also along the san mateo coast.

he killed his 89-year-old mother. dennis stanworth was out on parole for a life prison sentence for killing two teens in 1966. and vice-president joseph biden is looking for ways to reduce gun violence. today he will be meeting with gun owner's groups, hunters and also representatives from the entertainment industry. a flasher is on the loose on the peninsular. janine de la vega just spoke with police. here is more. >> reporter: police tell me this is an isolated incident which they don't believe has anything to do with other attacks on women. police say at 11:00 a woman was sitting in a car and looked up and saw a man standing next to the window with his pants down touching himself and staring at

her. she called 911 and police were unable to locate him. >> it is frightening. there is a lot of odd people out here and i stay here once a month and it makes me want to be more aware of my surroundings. >> well, there has not been any indecent exposure cases in reason months and there are cases of women being sexually assaulted by men. they were jocking downtown and in another case a woman in her home found a man trying to attack her. you can see california avenue in the business district, police say this case is unrelated to the other attacks of the woman jogging and in the

woman's home. the man was 5-foot 9 and was wearing a t-shirt and jeans but the victim did not get a good look at the suspect so they will not be releasing a suspect sketch in this case. janine de la vega ktvu channel 2 morning news. cal osha is investigating a sewerage leak in oakland. photos provided to us shows sewerage dripping down from the ceiling on tuesday. now the hospital says the sewerage line became blocked from some nearby redwood trees. nobody was allowed to use water for hours. there was no sewerage in any patient areas and the areas in the hospital will be thoroughly

this morning and runs through sunday. >> i'll take one for sal and one for me and you and steve. if you want to get into your hot rod or whatever car you use, you need to give yourself some extra time in this commute. 680 southbound is going to be a little bit slow. there are no major problems if you are driving at the bay bridge toll plaza but seems a touch lighter than usual. and it's not all that bad on the bridge itself. traffic looks good, a little bit of wet roads and you might even encounter some black ice. through burlingame and 101 you may see it let's go to steve. >> on the coast things can be very active and in fact that is favoring some shower activity going right along the coast and

you can see that is where the most moisture is and right along the coast it does. in fact right into the santa cruz mountains san mateo and some of that wants to turn to snow probably about 2500 feet. and for snow, it goes into 1:00 for a couple of inches of snow, so far no reports yet. a little bit up in the mountains, not a lot, no advisories in tahoe. and if we can get some of that moisture over land we will have some more and 30s and 40s on temperatures and clearing out and any where on the coast you can get some showers maybe some hail or light snow if you are around 2000 feet. partly sunny skies and very breezy and cool. parts of the peninsular that looks to be the area where it is so far the coldest.
